Cindy and the Peanut: On our February 1998 trip to the South, we stopped by Plains, Georgia. Plains is, of course, the hometown of former President Jimmy Carter. Although we enjoyed our visit to the Carter Historical Site, a real highpoint for Cindy was this opportunity to cuddle up to the giant peanut. In reviewing website usage data provided by our internet service provider, I note that this photograph is the most popular feature of the entire Seacord website. This picture has apparently been downloaded by scores of individuals. John Seacord
Cindy and I enjoy driving throughout the United States. We are fortunate to have relatives and friends who live all over the USA. In our travels, I have always been impressed by the friendliness and hospitality people have shown toward us. By sharing some of our photographs with you, I hope we can in some way convey the enthusiasm we have for our country. Our land and its people are truly diverse and there is much to be learned no matter what section of the country we travel in. I know of no place else where one can drive for thousands of miles in just a few days, be reasonably assured of a good road to travel on, and not have to deal with border crossings, passports, customs, etc. I know of no other place where one can climb 14,000' mountains on public lands one day, visit preserved archeological sites of an ancient desert civilization the next, and walk on the hallowed grounds of a great civil war a couple of days later. It's a big country!
Of course, Cindy and I also have an opportunity to try new things from time to time and we took our first ever cruise on the Queen Mary 2 during October 2009. Commodore Bernard Warner did the "driving" for us this time. See the link below for some pictures of this journey! John Seacord
