DeSoto Bar & Lounge
| In 1999, the owners of Armory Center in Albany wanted to add a bar, designed as a 1920's speakeasy, to the attractions in this "automobile theme park." It was to be located on the existing mezzanine overlooking the main floor, and utilize
a bar and other fixtures salvaged from local restaurants. The DeSoto was to serve customers in the evenings and would feature local and national entertainers. |
| The facade treatment included several signs indicating the bar had been closed by federal agents, and the doors and windows were papered over on the inside. However, around the corner, and "disguised" as the back door to a doctor's office, was the real entrance. |

| The DeSoto featured several trompe l'oeil murals. One showed an open door into a gambling room beyond, and another had a gangster looking though a peephole in a door, his finger ready on an alarm button. |
| The DeSoto project was cancelled by the client just prior to construction, although the bar itself was installed and has become a popular feature of Armory Center. |
