This is the infamous Cherry Unicorn. I say infamous because it didn't want to be a Unicorn. A lot of carvers say they see things in a piece of wood, and carve until they bring it out. Not so with me, I say "You WILL be..." and make it so. I was given this Cherry board, and had no idea of how old it was, but accepted it, because of it's beauty. Well, the damned board is as old as God and hard as stone. The work began with difficulty, and after a time he began to take shape, but not without a lot of swearing. The wood said "I don't want to be a Unicorn", and I'd reply, "You WILL be a Unicorn". Finally, one day, I used so much strength on it that I broke it in half. I swore that it wouldn't get away from me that easily, I glued it back together, and finished it. You cannot see the break, which is in the grain on the barrel of the animal. He is finished with a gloss Polyurethane, and stands on a Black Walnut base. He is approx. 4 x 10 x 10, and is for sale.
