Content standards are usually considered the statements that address the questions, "What should our students know," and "What should our students be able to do."  For the schools and districts using this book that are interested in applying and aligning the skills and contents from this text, the text includes a cross-reference of skills and topics and order of contents, which should be valuable as you articulate your local curriculum. 

When using this text as the primary or secondary resource for a school program, writers of curriculum are encouraged to develop a new standard for inclusion in their school or district's Language Arts curriculum that takes this format: Students use a variety of speaking techniques to build an understanding of Public Speaking and to improve their confidence.
