Cinerama Drive-In

CINERAMA COMES TO THE DRIVE-IN THEATRE

AT LAST CINERAMA has reached the drive-in screen. Its world premiere in an outdoor theatre was held in April at the Century Drive-In Theatre, Inglewood, Calif., managed by Peter Cole. The Century is approximately 15 years old, with a car capacity of 1,100.

The new Cinerama screen tower is steel, constructed by Lihap Industries, which also manufactured the screen of corrugated aluminum in vertical strips, 24 feet wide.

The three projectors by Cinerama, Inc., are mounted ten feet apart in a van, with a throw of 310 feet, and an angle of projection to the correct axis of the screen. Other equipment used includes RCA sound, Ashcraft Core-Lite lamps, Bausch & Lomb lenses and Burns Co. speakers.

Unlike at indoor Cinerama presentations, patrons enjoy pizza, barbecue, hot dogs, hamburgers and the like served at the station-type snack bar. During the regular ten-minute intermission it is manned by firm attendants.
